50:50 Inspired by Japan: mosaics, textiles and paper

1 April - 15 September 2013 Coming to the Russell-Cotes is the exhibition ‘50:50 Inspired by Japan: mosaics, textiles and paper’ by renowned artists Cleo Mussi and Matthew Harris. This marks the return to the Gallery for Cleo Mussi, whose previous exhibition ‘A-Z, A Hand Book’ in 2009 was the Russell-Cotes’ best-ever selling exhibition. Cleo Mussi and Matthew Harris have worked in parallel and close proximity 25 years. Their work shares a common language that involves the construction of whole images from pieces and fragments of cloth, paper and reclaimed ceramic. This selling exhibition features work inspired by their recent trip to Japan. Normal admission charges apply.

Slow Art Day

27 April 2013

It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.- Henry David Thoreau.
We invite you to visit the Russell-Cotes and look at art slowly as part of the International Slow Art scheme. Slow Art Day is the global all-volunteer event with a simple mission: help more people discover the joy of looking at and loving art. When people look slowly at a piece of art they make discoveries. The idea is that participants will look at five works of art for 10 minutes each and then meet up in the new Russell-Cotes cafe to talk about their experience.
