Continuing the success of its recent selling exhibitions, the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Bournemouth, presses on with its unique programme. In Print: Contemporary Landscape (1 August – 18 October 2009) is an exhibition of limited edition landscape prints.
The four exhibiting artists have works in some private and public collections, including the private collection of HRH the Prince of Wales (Ross Loveday), the V&A and the British Museum (Martyn Brewster), as well as being regular exhibitors at the Royal Academy.
The re-energised trend for investing in art has been seen by many as a response to the current economic downturn, as well as indicating a growing emotional desire to own a unique piece which will be a lifetime’s legacy. The limited edition prints in the exhibition In Print: Contemporary Landscape are priced from £35 to £450.
The Russell-Cotes Museum’s programme of selling exhibitions aims to offer local people and visitors to Bournemouth the opportunity to collect original artworks by celebrated artists that they find personally appealing, much like museum’s founders – Annie and Merton Russell-Cotes did at the turn of the 19th century.
The selling exhibition programme has included ceramics by Rosmarie James (2008), hand-blown glass by Emsie Sharp and Jo Stephen (until 4 October 2009) as well as A-Z A Handbook of mosaics by Cleo Mussi (February – August 2009) whose pieces are described as the “antiques of the future” by the BBC.
In Print: Contemporary Landscape exhibition runs until 18 October 2009 at Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, East Cliff Promenade, Bournemouth BH1 3AA. Open Tuesday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays from 10am to 5pm. Free entry.

NOTES TO EDITORS
The exhibiting artists are:
Martyn Brewster has been a well-known Bournemouth artist and printmaker for over 35 years. Many of his works are in public and corporate collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum to name but a few.
Paul Finn shares with us a mixture of the poetic with the topographical, these simple black and white woodblock prints record Paul’s observations and feelings for the places where he is currently working: Orvieto in Umbria, Castagniers near Nice, Gubbio and Montepulciano in Tuscany, and areas of Dorset near Charmouth.
Ross Loveday is best known for his powerful and very personal interpretations of landscape particularly in Pembrokeshire and East Anglia. He has twice won the Laing Art Competition and regularly exhibits in East Anglia, London and his native Wales. His work is in private collections including that of HRH the Prince of Wales.
Howard Phipps has been a member of the Royal West of England Academy since 1979 and the Society of Wood Engravers since 1985. He is a frequent exhibitor at Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions, where in addition he has received the Christie’s Contemporary Prize Award. Howard lives and works near Salisbury and is best known for his landscape engravings of the chalk downs of Wiltshire and Dorset.
Sarah van Nierkerk is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, a Royal West of England Academician, a member of the Society of Wood Engravers and an Honorary Member of The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. Sarah is a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Sarah is also a tutor in wood engraving at West Dean College.

2. Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum in Bournemouth is a dramatic experience for visitors. The exuberance and variety of styles found within the building creates a unique atmosphere that is a mixture of both private house and public museum. Created by two dedicated collectors, the Russell-Cotes is a museum of national importance.
The galleries display a regularly changing programme of significant art. Famous permanent artworks include Dante Gabriel Charles Rossetti’s Venus Verticordia (oil on canvas (1864-68)) which has toured the world as one of the UK’s most acclaimed works of art.
